Print
While all print stories are eventually published in one or more of the below topic categories, stories for the biannual printed edition of Atmos are commissioned based on the issue’s theme. Please see a list of previous issue themes here. If you are interested in pitching specifically for print, you may inquire as to the theme of the current issue.

The ideal Atmos story exists at the intersection of climate and culture. That can mean a culture story with a climate twist, a climate story with a culture twist, or something directly in between. Below are our our six main verticals; if your idea does not fit one of these topics, the story may not be a strong fit for Atmos:
- Art & Culture: Exploring the cultural zeitgeist through the lens of climate and sustainability, from photography and land art to films and music with environmental themes. This topic covers the arts, entertainment, literature, and lifestyle, as well as cultural traditions that offer alternative ways of being in relationship with each other and the Earth.
- Fashion & Design: A deep dive into ethical fashion, post-consumerism, upcycling, regenerative design, and biomimicry as pathways to a circular, non-extractive future. Covering innovations in material science, trailblazing designers, and bio-inspired architecture that harmonizes with ecosystems.
- Ecological Wisdom: Exploring spiritual ecology, Indigenous knowledge systems, and nature-based philosophies as frameworks for reconnection with the living world. These stories investigate the role of re-enchantment, reverence, and personal transformation in reshaping our ecological consciousness.
- Political Landscapes: Social justice, environmental justice, and climate policy are shaped by the complex interplay of governance, geopolitics, and structural power. From environmental and human rights rollbacks in the U.S. to international agreements for global cooperation, this topic looks at how political will determines the future of people and the planet.
- Science & Nature: Exploring the relationship between humanity and the natural world, covering climate change, wildlife, conservation, and the impact of the Anthropocene. By documenting the planet’s rich biodiversity and the latest scientific discoveries, this category highlights the essential role of species and ecosystems in maintaining planetary stability and resilience.
- Climate Solutions: Bold strategies for rapid decarbonization, clean energy, electrification, regenerative systems, circular economies, nature-based infrastructure, policy, and finance, to drive systemic change at the scale of the climate crisis. This category highlights the big ideas and innovations that can shift human systems and daily life toward a more sustainable future.
